Nature & Habitats

For the past twenty years, conservation and habitat creation have been at the forefront of our farming policies. The farm is currently entered into Higher Level Stewardship. This scheme is managed by Natural England and is reserved for farms that can contribute the most positive impact to the environment.

During those 20 years we have planted over 14 km of hedges, created 6 hectares of wading areas for wetland birds, and devoted more than 12 percent of our farmed area into environmental stewardship. A recent RSPB survey revealed that our farm is home to more than 65 species of birds.

Combining our commitment to environmental schemes with our cover cropping and zero tillage crop establishment we are enhance benefits for the soil the crops and the wider environment.

The farm is a demonstration farm for LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming). We also work closely with Rothamsted Research, the Ver Valley society and the Chiltern Conservation Board
